The Global Group has just launched a wonderful project: WSQK The Squawk, a short-lived radio station inspired by Stranger Things, is now available on London DAB, Global Player and connected speakers. The station will remain online until 1 January, in line with the release of the three parts of the final season of the show.

The concept is simple: recreate an American radio station from the 80s with all the codes of the era: programming exclusively 80s hits, two hosts with American accents (Vance Goodman and Mindy Flare). All accompanied by sung jingles and deliberately kitsch retro ads. They’ve taken the concept so far as to use a 1983 Inovonics FM250 to recapture the sound of FM radios of the time. The aim is to give the impression of a real radio stream from the Stranger Things universe. It’s a work of sound design that goes beyond a simple nostalgic playlist.
The WSQK radio station appears at the start of the season 5 teaser. Radio fans have been investigating the origin of this building, which is an actual radio building that has been abandoned since 1940.

On the networks and on air, Heart’s presenters have already been seen climbing into the station’s iconic vehicle. All the more reason to promote the short-lived radio station at group level!
You can listen to WSQK radio directly on the Global Player application.
